HPBA and Biomass Power Association Team Up to Celebrate National Bioenergy Day 2017
Arlington, Va. – The Hearth, Patio & Barbecue Association (HPBA) has teamed up with the Biomass Power Association to co-sponsor the Fifth Annual Bioenergy Day on October 18. Three HPBA members will be hosting open houses, plant tours, and a Clean Burning Workshop to demonstrate the benefits that bioenergy provides to local communities.
HPBA's members will open their factory and specialty retail store doors to educate consumers on how to properly store and prepare firewood and use a moisture meter. Workshops will also include an overview on managing air quality, efficiency, and safety tips for operating fireplaces, stoves, and/or central heaters.
"Firewood continues to be an essential energy and heating source in suburban and rural communities across North America," said Jack Goldman, President & CEO of the Hearth, Patio & Barbecue Association. "HPBA members across Canada and the United States know the importance of bioenergy from wood heaters and their role in providing energy security and heating households."
“The continuation of Bioenergy Day into a fifth year is truly exciting. We are grateful to our sponsors, particularly the U.S. Forest Service, for their dedication to raising awareness about the role of bioenergy in communities across the nation,” said Bob Cleaves, President and CEO of Biomass Power Association. “Today, all across the country, people are learning about bioenergy and how it helps local economies and forests.”

Bioenergy refers to the generation of electricity and heat from wood and other organic materials. Approximately 23% of all renewable energy consumed was from wood (EIA, 2013) – more than wind and solar combined and second only to hydroelectric energy.
Along with HPBA, Bioenergy Day sponsors include Biomass Power Association, U.S. Forest Service, Pellet Fuels Institute, U.S. Industrial Pellet Association, Biomass Thermal Energy Council, and Biomass Magazine.
