Glass Fireplace Glass Safety Standard
HPBA led the industry in creating a voluntary standard for all new gas fireplaces and glass-fronted gas heaters to help reduce the risk of burns in young children and others. Approved by the American National Standards Institute (ANSI) in 2012, the standard that HPBA proposed now requires technicians to install a protective barrier before leaving the customer's home if an appliance's glass surface exceeds 172 degrees Fahrenheit. Effective January 1, 2015, this standard was a result of more than four years of research, testing, and discussions with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission.
