HPBA Solid Fuel Manufacturers Attend NESCAUM Webinar

The Northeast States for Coordinated Air Use Management (NESCAUM) hosted a webinar on June 17 to provide an overview and update on their Independent Assessment of Residential Heating Appliances project. Funded by an $8.8 million grant from the EPA and working in conjunction with the National Residential Heating Task Force, the NESCAUM project has several primary objectives. One key goal is to rank the efficiency of certified stoves in the market and assess the role of certification data.

The Task Force includes representatives from state, local, and tribal agencies, including the Alaska Department of Environmental Conservation, the New York State Energy Research and Development Authority, and the Washington State Department of Ecology. It is important to note that of the 296 woodstoves currently on the EPA-certified list, the project will only test 150 stoves based on a selection criterion determined by Task Force members.

In addition to HPBA Government Affairs staff, several members of the Solid Fuel Hearth Appliance Section participated and submitted numerous live questions through the chat feature during the webinar. HPBA staff also provided a follow-up document with further questions for the record. Staff will continue to closely monitor this project and will provide updates as they are made available.
