California Energy Commission Visits Local Hearth Shop

The California Energy Commission (CEC) visited a local Sacramento hearth specialty dealer, Custom Fireside, on June 26 to explore and understand more about modern hearth stoves, fireplaces, and inserts. Will Vicent, Deputy Director of Building Standards, along with three other CEC members met with Tyler Barrett, President of Custom Fireside, and Eric Adair, HPBA’s Senior Manager of Codes & Standards to discuss how hearth appliances can reduce home energy demand and help the CEC meet its goals of reducing residential energy consumption and greenhouse gas emissions.

The CEC visitors asked insightful questions and learned about the different fuel options and choices for hearth appliances, as well as modern technology integrated into them, such as thermostatic and zonal control, automatic fueling, and smart home integration. These advancements help hearth appliances reduce a home’s overall energy use, saving consumers money, and reducing greenhouse gas emissions. The visit was a positive one, and HPBA and HPBA Pacific hope to continue their relationship with the CEC with future meetings and visits.
